Patrick Mahomes' MVP season will go down in the history books as one of the most impressive campaigns played out by an NFL quarterback. Putting up league-leading numbers week in and week out, Mahomes drew a lot of attention back in 2018 on his way to the MVP honor.

Thus, it comes as little surprise that the Kansas City Chiefs star was questioned by many about his peculiar game-day attire. Ever since making his league debut, Mahomes has always been sporting just one arm sleeve when taking to the field.

When asked about the same during a conversation with Arrowhead Addict, the quarterback revealed that this was down to a superstition he has maintained over the years:

"I don’t necessarily have any pregame rituals, but I’ve worn the one sleeve in every single game I’ve ever started. That’s pretty much the only superstitious thing I do."

The QB further went on to state that this ritual can be traced back to his high school days:

It goes all the way back to my junior year of high school when I first started for the varsity team. I was out there with a single sleeve in Denver when it was only 11 degrees."

Fast forward to 2022 and the Chiefs QB is still sticking true to this superstition wherever he has played, whatever the weather.

Patrick Mahomes is once again in NFL MVP conversation

Patrick Mahomes might only be 27, but he's already won more accolades than most QBs achieve during their entire careers. Now in his fifth season with the Chiefs, the quarterback is looking to add another MVP award to his trophy cabinet.

So far in 2022, the mercurial QB has led the league in terms of passing touchdowns (28) and yards (3,265). If the Chiefs star continues at this pace, he will end up breaking the all-time NFL record for most passing yards in a season currently held by Pro Football Hall of Famer Peyton Manning.

The 2018 MVP's impact on the gridiron is unmatched. One could argue that the Chiefs QB has had a similarly revolutionary impact on the sport as Steph Curry has on the NBA. His ability to extend plays with his feet while also being able to thread passes through the tightest of gaps is what sets him apart. Even from traditional pocket passers such as Tom Brady and Aaron Rodgers.

That being said, if the QB can keep up the numbers he's putting up right now, he will definitely once again find himself in the MVP conversation this season. We will see if he can keep his incredible form up over the coming months.
