Tony Pollard filled in for the injured Ezekiel Elliott last week as the Dallas Cowboys routed the Chicago Bears. Pollard had a sensational game, and due to that, many people have begun doubting Elliott's importance to the Cowboys.
Against the Bears, Pollard had 14 rushing attempts for 131 yards and three touchdowns. Skip Bayless, who has been a big advocate for Ezekiel Elliott throughout his career, now believes that the Cowboys should give Tony Pollard more snaps. Here's what Skip Bayless said about Ezekiel Elliott on Undisputed:
"His best days are, unfortunately, behind him. I used to love him to death. We did a commercial together. You and I better come prepared commercial. And the opening scene is me leaping out of bed, already dressed to work out."
Bayless added:
"I slept in my workout clothes and you can see on my nightstand, I got a picture of Zeke. Yeah, well, that's how much I did love him. But, hey, you got to keep proving. You got to keep earning my fandom love here because I can't even recognize him."
Bayless continued to elucidate his thinking:
"It's like he went to Cabo to hold out, and we saw a video of him running in Cabo saying to stay in shape. And then it looked like he's still running Cabo Sand when he got into his first game with the Dallas Cowboys."
Ezekiel Elliott hasn't been as explosive for the Cowboys as Tony Pollard. Now it seems that many, including Skip Bayless, think Pollard should get the starting role. So far this season, Elliott has had 109 carries for 443 yards and has scored four touchdowns. Elliott needs to improve his numbers quickly, or he'll be the RB2.
Ezekiel Elliott will be back for the Cowboys next game
The Dallas Cowboys have a bye in Week 9 and it will give them the required rest to recover. Following their bye week, the Cowboys will play the Green Bay Packers in Week 10.
Ezekiel Elliott is expected to be back for that game, and it's likely he will be the starting running back. Elliott is paid too much to be benched so early, but he needs to improve his numbers as Pollard is breathing down his neck.
The game between the Packers and the Cowboys will be of huge importance. Even though Green Bay are sliding, we are likely to see these two teams battle it out for a Wild Card spot in the playoffs. It will be interesting to see if the Cowboys continue their excellent form against Aaron Rodgers and company.
