Chicago Bears safety Jonathan Owens’ wife, Simone Biles, is making headlines. The drama began when Riley Gaines, a former college swimmer, criticized a Minnesota high school softball team on X on Friday.
The team had a transgender pitcher named Marissa Rothenberger, who helped them win a championship. Rothenberger, who started her gender transition at nine years old, was allowed to play under Minnesota’s rules. These rules permitted athletes to play on teams that match their gender identity, but only after a review process.
After the team posted about their win, Gaines reposted it with a message.

“Comments off lol. To be expected when your star player is a boy,” Gaines tweeted.

Biles responded by saying Gaines was being a bully. Additionally, Biles also called Gaines a “sore loser” and said people should support transgender athletes instead of attacking them.
"You’re truly sick, all of this campaigning because you lost a race. Straight up sore loser. You should be uplifting the trans community and perhaps finding a way to make sports inclusive OR creating a new avenue where trans feel safe in sports. Maybe a transgender category IN ALL sports!! But instead… You bully them… One things for sure is no one in sports is safe with you around!!!!!" Biles tweeted.
As the beef on X gained traction, "Fearless" podcast host Jason Whitlock didn’t like Biles’ message. He reposted her tweet and said Biles should be protecting women, not standing against them.
"This is retarded. You should be protecting women," Whitlock tweeted.
Gaines believes transgender women have an unfair advantage because of biological differences, and wants rules to protect female athletes.
Meanwhile, Biles thinks excluding transgender athletes is unfair and hurtful, as sports should be inclusive and kind.
Simone Biles posted another strong tweet for Riley Gaines
In a separate tweet, Jonathan Owens’ wife, Simone Biles, shared another strong message.
“Bully someone your own size, which would ironically be a male @Riley_Gaines_,” Biles wrote.
Gaines replied and said she was disappointed in Biles’ support for transgender athletes. She called Biles a “male-apologist,” and that her views were hurting young girls who dream of playing sports.
"This is so disappointing. My take is the least controversial take on the planet. Simone Biles being a male-apologist at the expense of young girls’ dreams? Didn’t have that on my bingo card. Maybe she could compete in pommel horse and rings in 2028," Gaines tweeted.
Gaines then mocked Biles by suggesting she should join two men’s gymnastics events in 2028.
“Maybe she could compete in pommel horse and rings in 2028," Gaines tweeted.
She also brought up Larry Nassar, the former doctor who abused many U.S. gymnasts, including Biles.
