Now that former NFL great quarterback Tom Brady is retired from football, most of his time is focused on analyzing the game as a Fox Sports broadcaster. He called his first game in the booth this past weekend during the clash between Cleveland Browns and Dallas Cowboys.
With Week One of the 2024 NFL season in the books, Brady was featured on a segment with Fox, introducing his "Top 3 Stars of the Week." He listed Dallas Cowboys linebacker Micah Parson and San Francisco running back Jordan Mason as his first two stars for Week One. His third choice was his successor, Baker Mayfield, whom he wishes he had drafted in fantasy football this year.
During the segment, Brady praised Mayfield for his performance in the Bucs' 37-20 win against the Washington Commanders on September 9, where he threw for four touchdowns. Brady also said he wished he drafted Mayfield in fantasy football this year.
"And last, and certainly not least, down in Tampa Bay," Brady said (per Sports Illustrated). "Baker Mayfield threw four touchdowns, two to my boy Mike Evans, one to Chris Godwin. What a performance.... Baker, I wish I took you in fantasy ... But a great start. Finding Mike, finding Chris. Having that type of performance at home. That's exactly what that team needs. Great job."

Chris Godwin offers high praise for Baker Mayfield
It's always good when a quarterback has the trust and belief of the locker room.
The Tampa Bay Buccaneers didn't know what to expect when they signed Baker Mayfield as a free agent before the 2023 season. However, after leading them to the playoffs with a 9-8 record, they extended him on a three-year deal worth $100 million.
Following the team's 1-0 start to the season, wide receiver Chris Godwin praised Mayfield for being a leader and having a positive attitude that's contagious in the locker room.
Godwin said following Week One's win:
"I’m always impressed with his resiliency. He proves time and time again that he’s a fighter, a leader, he’s always out there trying to make the play. He always wants to win. Never trying to concede on any possession. And I think that those types of things are very infectious for our locker room. If you look around — everyone loves Baker."
The Buccaneers were uncertain who their franchise quarterback would be after Tom Brady retired. By signing Mayfield to a three-year extension, it showed their belief in him.
Mayfield seems to be picking up where he left off from last season and will have a tough task in front of him this week against the Detroit Lions.
