Trey Lance suffered an unfortunate season-ending injury in Week 2 of the 2022-23 NFL season. The San Francisco 49ers quarterback fractured his right ankle in the first quarter of the game against the Seattle Seahawks.
Lance underwent successful surgery on his ankle but will not be returning to the field anytime soon. The Niners confirmed that the 22-year-old has been ruled out for the rest of the campaign. However, he is in line to be available for the start of the 2023-24 regular season.
What happened to Trey Lance?
In the first quarter of the game against the Seahawks, Trey Lance was stopped by Seattle's Bryan Mone and Cody Barton. However, the Niners quarterback had his leg caught during the tackle.
The tackle broke Lance's ankle and he was seen grimacing on the pitch. He briefly got up before limping and immediately returned to the turf at Levi's Stadium. Medics quickly rushed towards Lance and he needed to be carted off the field and taken to a hospital.
Lance threw a rather underwhelming 194 passing yards and one interception in his two games this season. He failed to throw any touchdowns and had a passer rating of 55.0 before his season-ending injury.
Prior to the start of the season, Lance was named as the starting quarterback for the Niners. However, in Lance's absence, Jimmy Garroppolo has taken over as the game-caller for the San Francisco outfit.
Trey Lance fantasy outlook
Given that Lance is ruled out for the campaign, you should obviously not draft him into your fantasy team. He was able to add a mere 13.5 fantasy points in less than five quarters this season.
