Under the leadership of head coach Jack Patera, the Seattle Seahawks made their NFL debut in 1976. Two years later, in 1978, the Seahawks had their first successful season, and Patera was voted NFL Coach of the Year in 1979. The inaugural season of the Seattle Seahawks in 1976 represented the completion of a search for a National Football League franchise that began in the Pacific Northwest city in 1957. At that time, the idea of building a dome stadium to guarantee the city a major league sports franchise was initially brought up. Seattle received the NFL's 28th franchise on June 4, 1974, to play in the 64,984-seat Kingdome.
The Seahawks currently compete in the NFC West division of the NFL. The regular season kicks off with a home game against the Los Angeles Rams on September 10, 2023, followed by an away game against the Detroit Lions on September 17th. The Seahawks will play under the lights at Lumen Field in Seattle against the Carolina Panthers on September 24, 2023.
The Seahawks will have their bye week early on in Week 5 of the season. After a bye week, the Seahawks will be on the road again, this time facing the Cincinnati Bengals. Thanksgiving will see the Seahawks hosting the San Francisco 49ers on November 24, 2023 in a primetime matchup. The regular season will conclude with a home game against the Pittsburgh Steelers on the last day of December this year.
