It was a completely different world in 2018. Tom Brady was still with the New England Patriots, and LeBron James moved on from the Cleveland Cavaliers to the Los Angeles Lakers. Of course, both athletes were already labeled as GOATs by their fans.

Now, while both have established careers with the NFL and the NBA, one can't help but imagine both stars playing on one team. Tom Brady seemed to have a similar reaction. Years ago, James posted a few stills of him during practice. He wrote:

"Man I love this game!! THANK YOU 🏀."

While fans praised the Lakers icon for his game and form, Brady was just as wowed. The Tampa Bay Buccaneers star didn't hesitate to let James know, praising him while inviting him to play with the Patriots:

"Damn bro come play tight end you and Gronk would be unstoppable!!!!"

A Brady-James collaboration would certainly turn a few heads. Both have achieved more than most in their fields, and are currently playing while at the tail-end of their careers.

James, on his end, had the opportunity to pursue a football career during high school. The 37-year-old played both sports while studying, eventually choosing the NBA.

In fact, teams like the Pittsburgh Steelers have also spoken about having James on board. While King James did have an interest in playing with an NFL team, he was happy with his game in the NBA.

Are Tom Brady and LeBron James friends?

While Brady and James might not be catching up every single day, the two of them definitely seem on good terms. Though they might not have many on-field or official interactions, they have encouraged each other online on various occasions.

Tom Brady ended up congratulating James after his fourth NBA championship win at the Orlando bubble. Both Brady and James often call out people for calling each other washed, especially when they have won titles towards the end of their career. Brady wrote:

"Congrats to my brother @KingJames on winning his 4th championship. Not bad for a washed up old guy!"

James reacted after Brady's seventh Super Bowl win, even adding a 'WashedKing' hash tag.
