Bell started his organized football career as a high school standout at Summerfield High School in Los Angeles.

He was a multi-sport athlete, playing softball, basketball and football. He eventually committed to football, performing well enough to earn a scholarship with Northwestern State University. He entered Northwestern State University as a two-sport athlete, playing football and basketball at the Division 1 level, before eventually focusing on the former.

Demetress Bell's college football career started on a low-key note, as the raw prospect was compelled to learn the playbook due to his high school's lack of a proper football team.

He started out as a defensive end with the college football team but eventually switched to the offensive line due to an array of injuries to starting offensive linesmen. That proved to be a brilliant decision, as Bell earned second-team All-Louisiana honors in his first season as a starter at the offensive line position. He had one more year in college and upped his performances to become an All-Louisiana and All-Southland Conference first-teamer.

Eventually, Bell was drafted into the NFL by the Buffalo Bills in the seventh round of the 2008 NFL draft. He earned the pick due to his athletic build and stellar senior year at college level.

Analysts praised the Bills for their pick, seeing Bell as a low-risk, high-reward draft. Bell performed admirably for the Bills whenever he took to the gridiron, as he formed part of a sturdy O-line.

Despite his success in Buffalo, he left them for the Philadelphia Eagles in his fifth season. His time in Philly was short-lived, though, as he couldn't recover from a career-altering string of injuries. After he left the Eagles, Bell left the NFL for good.
