Die-hard football fans may have wondered which NFL team has won the most Super Bowls. Since some teams have achieved greater success on the field than others, championship runs can be rare.

We have witnessed a total of 20 different teams win big games since the Super Bowl-era began in 1966. The teams with the joint-most championship victories in history are highlighted below.

With a combined total of six championship victories, the New England Patriots and Pittsburgh Steelers are tied at the top. The Packers and New York Giants have four victories, while the Dallas Cowboys and San Francisco 49ers both have five.

The New England Patriots have won six Super Bowls.

2001, 2003, 2004, 2014, 2016, 2018

The New England Patriots have been overwhelmingly dominating and despised by rival fans for the past 20 years. Even with head coach Bill Belichick and a youthful Tom Brady, the Patriots were underdogs at the start of 2002.

That year, however, the Patriots stunned everyone by upsetting the much-favored St. Louis Rams, also known as "The Greatest Show of Turf." The greatest dynasty run in NFL history would begin with their victory over Kurt Warner and company.

After winning back-to-back championships in 2003 and 2004, they managed a cumulative record of 28-4 and had 17 straight seasons with 10 or more wins from 2003 to 2019. Despite falling to the New York Giants in the Super Bowl in 2007, they dominated the league on their way to a 16-0 regular season record.

Six championship victories for the Pittsburgh Steelers

1974, 1975, 1978, 1979, 2005, 2008

The Pittsburgh Steelers are one of the most storied organizations in professional sports overall and the NFL's seventh-oldest club. Fans of the Pittsburgh Steelers had to wait 42 years before the team's debut Super Bowl victory in 1975.

However, they were able to win four championships over the next six seasons while assembling probably the best football squad in history. Many Hall of Famers played for Chuck Noll's club, including defensive tackle "Mean" Joe Greene, linebackers Jack Ham and Jack Lambert, quarterback Terry Bradshaw, cornerback Mel Blount, and cornerback Jack Lambert.

The Arizona Cardinals were the opponents in their most recent Super Bowl victory, which was completed off with a touchdown pass from Ben Roethlisberger to Santonio Holmes.
