Who was the best quarterback in college football in the 2000s? That is the questions that Cincinnati Bengals wide receiver Tee Higgins asked his Twitter followers on Thursday. The answers were across the board.

So who is the greatest college QB in the 2000s?

Many chose former Florida Gators quarterback Tim Tebow and quarterback Cam Newton when he played at Auburn University. Both quarterbacks won the Heisman Trophy award during their impressive collegiate football careers.

During Tebow's four years at Florida, he threw for 9,200 yards and 88 touchdowns while rushing for over 2,900 yards and 57 touchdowns. Netwon started his career in Florida before transferring to Blinn Junior College and then just one year at Auburn. During his four years there, he threw for 5,700 yards and 52 touchdowns while rushing for 2,200 yards and 40 touchdowns.

Others mentioned Johnny Manziel when he played at Texas A&M and quarterback Pat White, who played for the West Virginia Mountaineers from 2004 until 2008.

Others on Twitter went even further back into the early 2000s and mentioned quarterback Vince Young during his reign with the Texas Longhorns which was capped off by a win over USC for the National Championship.

While Tim Tebow and Cam Newton received most of the recognition, there were a few others that mentioned Higgins' replies, including now Jacksonville Jaguars quarterback and first overall draft pick, Trevor Lawrence. He was one of the best quarterbacks in the game while playing at Clemson.

Doe Joe Burrow's college stats warrant a place in the conversation?

One surprising part about the responses to Tee Higgins' question is that not many responded by telling the quarterback that his own Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow was one of the best to play.

After transferring from Ohio State, where there wasn't necessarily a spot for him to start, he starred at LSU.

He played two seasons for the Tigers in 2018 and 2019. He started all 15 games of his final season and threw for 5,671 yards and 60 touchdowns while rushing for 384 yards and five touchdowns.

That spectacular college football season led to him being awarded the Heisman Trophy award in 2019. He was then drafted by the Cincinnati Bengals with the first overall draft pick in the 2020 NFL Draft.

The quarterbacks mentioned above certainly left their mark on college football. But, Burrow may have been the most impressive.
