Frank Clark has been an integral part of the Kansas City Chiefs' defense for the last four seasons, helping the franchise win two Super Bowls. Now, it seems that Clark's time in Kansas City is likely coming to an end.
Per ESPN NFL insider Adam Schefter, the Chiefs are expected to release the defensive end after he and the franchise couldn't redo his contract.
The former Michigan Wolverines star signed with the Chiefs ahead of the 2019 season after starting his career with the Seattle Seahawks. He accumulated 32 tackles for loss, 23.5 sacks, and six forced fumbles in his time with the Chiefs.
Frank Clark will need a new home when Kansas City releases the eight-year veteran. Three teams could use the defensive services of the 29-year-old on their roster.
Three teams where Frank Clark could land this offseason
#1 - Atlanta Falcons
Last season, the Falcons were one of the worst teams in the NFL, finishing with the second-fewest sacks (21). A major priority for general manager Terry Fontenot is to get some help on the defensive line for Grady Jarrett. Atlanta has around $60 million in cap space and could ink Clark to a contract with no problem.
Adding Clark would give a boost to a defense that needs to get better this off-season. The pairing of Jarrett and Clark would be a great way to get better quickly on that side of the ball.
#2 - Seattle Seahawks
Could a reunion be in order for Frank Clark? Head coach Pete Carroll's calling card has always been a great defense, but that hasn't been the case over the last couple of seasons. The Seahawks could use Clark's talents to go along with linebackers Uchenna Nwosu and Darrell Taylor.
Signing quarterback Geno Smith was a top priority this offseason and they gave him an extension. There is already familiarity there between Clark and the Seahawks, so bringing him back could be a strong possibility.
#3 - Cincinnati Bengals
The Bengals have one of the best offenses in the league, but their defense has struggled to get into their opponents' backfield. Similar to the Falcons, the Bengals ranked near the bottom of sacks last season at 30. Of the other two teams mentioned earlier, this team is the closest to being a Super Bowl contender.
Yet, Cincinnati may have to part ways with either Trey Hendrickson or Sam Hubbard to sign Clark. Bengals fans didn't like Frank Clark while in a Chiefs uniform but seeing him in the Bengals one will shift the sentiment for sure.
