NFL Trade Rumors: Did Aaron Rodgers take advantage of Packers? League exec claims QB just wanted $150M

Green Bay Packers QB Aaron Rodgers is being linked to a move away from the franchise

Aaron Rodgers has spent his entire 18-year NFL career with the Green Bay Packers. However, multiple NFL executives recently commented that Rodgers' time with the Packers is coming to an end this offseason.

Another executive, who spoke on anonymity, commented that the Packers star used the team to get his huge $150 million contract extension. Here's what he said:

“I think he showed his true colors last offseason when he held them hostage and took $50 million a year. He knew he could get his best deal from the Packers, and now that he has it, now that he has secured the bag, he is open to leaving.”

Another executive said:

“I think the Packers are done with him. The time to jump off was last year. They missed the ability to maximize their compensation. And they missed the playoffs. When they moved Davante (Adams), they should have moved Aaron and said, ‘We are starting over and we have all these picks.’ They could have sent him to Denver.”

Aaron Rodgers signed a three-year deal worth over $150 million last March with the Packers. Next season, he is set to make almost $60 million should he decide to play. There are other teams where the 10-time Pro Bowler could end up if Green Bay does choose to trade him.

Potential suitors for Aaron Rodgers

The New York Jets have been linked to Rodgers heavily given their needs, and after hiring Nathaniel Hackett as offensive coordinator. Hackett was Rodgers' offensive coordinator for three seasons in Green Bay.

League executives have also suggested the Tennessee Titans as a potential landing spot. One executive said:

“I just don’t know that he is going to want to be in New York. Mike Vrabel and Tennessee seem more his pace. Whether Vrabel wants to put up with his s—, who knows? Matt LaFleur was the offensive coordinator with Vrabel, so Vrabel could pick his brain. Robert Saleh and LaFleur are close. Those teams all have ties.”

The Las Vegas Raiders are also in the market for a quarterback as Derek Carr will be moved. An executive noted that it would be an odd fit given Aaron Rodgers and his personality:

“Vegas would be fine for him. It just seems like a weird fit, Rodgers’ personality and Josh McDaniels. I think Josh would probably rather develop his own guy than have Rodgers, and I think he’d rather have (Jimmy) Garoppolo than Rodgers.”

Overall, respected NFL executives sense that the Packers are more likely to trade Aaron Rodgers than keep him. We will what happens with the Super Bowl-winning quarterback this offseason.
