NFL Trade Rumors: Packers projected to sign veteran TE following Aaron Rodgers’ departure to NY Jets

Aaron Rodgers is likely to get traded before 2023 NFL Draft

As the Green Bay Packers look to enter the 2023-24 season without Aaron Rodgers, one position they will need to upgrade before the offseason is over is tight end.

They lost starting tight end Robert Tonyan in free agency to their division rival, the Chicago Bears, and are expected to lose veteran tight end Marcedes Lewis.

The Packers have shown interest in upgrading the position as they hosted Georgia tight end Darnell Washington for a visit.

David Kenyon, a writer for Bleacher Report, wrote about every team's offseason needs and pointed to the Packers possibly adding veteran tight end MyCole Pruitt.

Kenyon wrote:

“Aaron Rodgers’ looming departure means Marcedes Lewis is expected to leave, though. The free agent has been a critical blocker at tight end for the Packers. MyCole Pruitt isn’t a major receiving threat but has seven touchdown catches over the last two seasons and a solid reputation as a blocker.”

Pruitt has played seven seasons in the NFL. He has 62 career receptions for 638 yards and 11 touchdowns. He's scored seven touchdowns in the last two seasons and is regarded as a good pass-blocking tight end.

The Packers will need to add Pruitt, a different veteran tight end, or draft one. Tonyan was third on the team in yards last season with 470 on 53 receptions, scoring two touchdowns.

The next leading tight end was Josiah Deguara, as he caught 13 balls for 114 yards. Lewis recorded six receptions for 66 yards and two touchdowns.

Both Aaron Rodgers and Marcedes Lewis are expected to join the New York Jets this offseason.

Rodgers announced the news last month on The Pat McAfee Show, and it's expected that Lewis will follow him to New York.

When news emerged of Rodgers' rumored move to New York, he reportedly put out a wishlist of players he wanted the Jets to sign and Lewis was included. They've already added his former wide receiver Allen Lazard and signed his former offensive coordinator, Nathaniel Hackett.

A deal between the Jets and Packers should come through before the draft, and Lewis could sign with the team whenever.

Do you think Marcedes Lewis will follow Aaron Rodgers to New York?
