Rico Dowdle is the real RB1 for the Dallas Cowboys, even though the team has signed Ezekiel Elliott. His recent performances have earned him this distinction, but to add him to your fantasy football team is a completely different thing.

Should you add Cowboys RB Rico Dowdle in Week 5 Waiver Wire?

It's still too early to place your trust in him, even though he has shown some things over the past few weeks. He scored his first touchdown of the season against the New York Giants, and his average in the past three games has been over 4.0 yards per carry.

But he still has not reached 50 rushing yards in one game, and although he's a good presence in the passing game, he's also inconsistent in it, with only one catch (albeit for a touchdown) in Week 4 for example. It's never bad to have an RB1 on the roster, but be careful.

Rico Dowdle's fantasy outlook for 2024 NFL season

It's unlikely he'll ever be consistent enough to merit a starter place on your team. The Cowboys love Ezekiel Elliott but, more importantly, they're good when they're passing the ball. Dowdle is never going to be a feature back in this team, earning around 20 touches a game.

He's going to breakout one game and you'll be upset because you haven't started him just to start him the next week and be disappointed with his production. It's better just to avoid any headaches.

Is Rico Dowdle a good waiver wire pickup in fantasy football?

It depends on how you want to stack your roster. Again, when you have an RB1 on your bench, it isn't really bad to keep him there not to have any risks; however, if your roster is deep enough, you're not going to be upset by missing on him.

He's not a good waiver wire pickup unless you need to bolster your running back group as he won't produce consistently for you. A flyer here and there is fine in PPR leagues, but overall, you're going to be more upset than happy.
