Sean Payton is looking to bring on a revolution in the NFL. Taking on the mantle of the new Denver Broncos head coach, Payton has his work cut out, though. The Broncos had a dismal 2022 NFL season despite bringing on star quarterback Russell Wilson.
While the quarterback can't solely be blamed for the franchise's downfall, he has had to shoulder a lot of blame for the same. Yet another avenue Payton must address is the team's defense.
With the team now without a defensive coordinator following the axing of Ejiro Evero, Payton is currently on the lookout for someone to oversee his team's defense. With multiple names being lined up as Evero's potential successor, one name seems to stick out among the bunch.
According to NFL insider Ian Rapoport, the Broncos have had conversations with former Buffalo Bills HC Rex Ryan about the vacant post. The news comes after Ryan, who is currently an NFL analyst at a renowned network, met with Payton to discuss potentially joining his coaching staff.
Ryan enjoyed his most successful stint as head coach of the New York Jets. Guiding the team to back-to-back AFC Championship Games. It has been a while since Ryan coached in the NFL, but his experience would surely help a side like the Broncos. There are, of course, others vying for the role. Among them are the Seahawks' Sean Desai and former Broncos HC Vance Joseph.
