Stephon Gilmore landing spots: Three reasons why the Vikings should pursue 2x All-Pro CB

Free agent Stephon Gilmore is reportedly set to meet with the Minnesota Vikings to join the team's roster for the 2024 NFL season. The two-time All-Pro cornerback started every game for the Dallas Cowboys last season and is looking for a new challenge.

With the preseason underway, Gilmore is still without a team, but the Vikings should soon seal the deal with the Super Bowl winner.

Three reasons why the Vikings should pursue Stephon Gilmore

#1. Gilmore has previously worked with Vikings defensive coordinator Brian Flores

Gilmore can reunite with Vikings' defensive coordinator Brian Flores if he joins Minnesota. The pair worked together for two years during their time with the New England Patriots and were part of the team that won the 2018 Super Bowl. Since Flores knows Gilmore's attributes, he can use the cornerback to the best of his ability in Minnesota.

#2. Gilmore is still among the top NFL cornerbacks

Gilmore started every game for the Dallas Cowboys last season. He racked up 68 tackles, two interceptions and a forced fumble in the regular season to help the Cowboys reach the playoffs. Dallas was eliminated from the postseason by the Green Bay Packers in the wild-card round.

According to reports, the Cowboys wanted to re-sign Gilmore, but the player opted to enter free agency. Although Gilmore will turn 34 next month, he is still fit and reads the game expertly, which could be a big bonus for the Vikings if they sign him.

#3. Gilmore will bring 12-years of NFL experience to the Vikings defense

After playing in the NFL for 12 years, Gilmore offers the Viking's defense much-needed experience. The cornerback has played with some of the top teams in the league, including the Patriots, Cowboys, Buffalo Bills, Indianapolis Colts and Carolina Panthers.

With a veteran in their defensive scheme, some of the younger Vikings would also have a locker-room mentor. Overall, signing a five-time Pro Bowler like Stephon Gilmore could improve the atmosphere in Minnesota's camp.
