After Monday night's loss to the Kansas City Chiefs, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers are now 4-5 on the season. They will face another four-win team in the San Francisco 49ers in Week 10.
The Bucs will face the Niners at Raymond James Stadium in an attempt to snap a losing streak of three games and restore their status as a serious playoff candidate.
After a Week 9 bye, the 49ers, who are still in the running for the playoffs, will want to start winning games in the second half of the season. Securing a win over the Buccaneers, who are dealing with serious injuries, would be a terrific way for the Niners to begin a winning run.
Tampa Bay Buccaneers injury report for Week 10
Several important players on both the offense and defense of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers are dealing with injury concerns.
The Bucs' Thursday practice was hindered by the absence of wideout Mike Evans (hamstring), quarterback Baker Mayfield (toe), wideout Jalen McMillan (hamstring), wideout Sterling Shepard (hamstring, hip) and safety Jordan Whitehead (quadriceps), raising questions about their availability for the Week 10 matchup against the San Francisco 49ers.
Running back Bucky Irving (toe), defensive end William Gholston (knee, ribs), defensive tackle Vita Vea (hip), linebacker J.J. Russell (ribs), defensive tackle Greg Gaines (calf) and guard Ben Bredeson (shoulder) were also only able to participate in limited practice on Thursday.
San Francisco 49ers injury report for Week 10
Both defensive tackle Kevin Givens (groin) and wide receiver Chris Conley (hamstring) missed practice on Wednesday and Thursday for the San Francisco 49ers. Additionally, cornerback Charvarius Ward, whose daughter died last week, didn't practice on Thursday.
The following players were limited in the Niners' practice on Thursday: defensive end Nick Bosa (hip), defensive end Yetur Gross-Matos (knee), wide receiver Deebo Samuel (rib, oblique), center Jon Feliciano (knee), wide receiver Jauan Jennings (hip), running back Christian McCaffrey (Achilles), running back Jordan Mason (shoulder), kicker Jake Moody (right ankle), safety Malik Mustapha (calf) and punter Mitch Wishnowsky (back).
Christian McCaffrey injury update
To begin the week, running back Christian McCaffrey, whose practice window was opened by the San Francisco 49ers this week following a stint on the injured reserve list, was limited in practice on Wednesday and Thursday.
Achilles tendonitis has kept McCaffrey out of the team's first eight games, but if all goes according to plan, he should be back on Sunday.
After a season in which he amassed 2,023 yards from scrimmage and 21 touchdowns, McCaffrey will be trying to dominate the league once more as he prepares to play his first game of the season. He won the Associated Press Offensive Player of the Year award in 2023 and assisted the 49ers in winning the NFC championship.
Mike Evans injury update
Mike Evans has been sidelined by a hamstring injury since Week 7.
Evans' injury appears to be a "moderate hamstring strain," according to coach Todd Bowles, but it seems the veteran wide receiver won't return before the Bucs' Week 11 bye.
Evans is anticipated to miss the game against the San Francisco 49ers after being declared DNP in both of this week's practices. If all goes according to plan, he should be back to play in Week 12 against the New York Giants. He would undoubtedly benefit from the team's bye, which is set for next week.
Baker Mayfield injury update
Due to a toe injury, Baker Mayfield was listed as DNP in practice on the Tampa Bay Buccaneers' injury report on Wednesday and Thursday. However, Liam Coen, the offensive coordinator for Tampa Bay, has said that the quarterback will still play on Sunday against the 49ers.
Mayfield has been tremendous for the Bucs this season, leading the league in touchdown passes (23) and ranking second in the league in passing yards (2,389). He will be looking to help the Bucs improve on their 4-5 record against the Niners in Week 10.
