The 2024/2025 NFL season is just three weeks away, and fans are eagerly looking forward to the start of a new campaign. Players around the league have spent the last month in training camps, and as usual, some players have suffered injuries before the start of the season.
Several players, including Justin Herbert, Puka Nacua, DeAndre Hopkins, Geno Smith and Nick Bolton, sustained injuries before their team's first preseason game. In contrast, Minnesota Vikings rookie quarterback J.J. McCarthy played in the first preseason game but will now miss the rest of the season due to a meniscus tear.
Several other key players sustained injuries leading to the second week of preseason games. In this article, I'll talk about some of the injuries that could have a big impact on their respective teams and also in fantasy football.

NFL injury report Week 2 preseason
Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver Marquise Brown was among the players who got hurt during his team's first preseason game. The former Ravens receiver suffered a shoulder injury, and the likelihood of him playing in Week 1 is quite low.
Indianapolis Colts wideout Josh Downs suffered a high-ankle sprain last week. His status for Week 1 is also uncertain, but like Brown, he is currently projected to be healthy by Week 2.
Some other notable injuries:
- Christian McCaffrey - Calf
- Jalen Ramsey - Undisclosed injury
- Joey Bosa - Undisclosed injury
- Nick Bolton - Elbow
- Puka Nacua - Knee
- Justin Herbert - Right foot
#Note: All the players mentioned in the list above are currently on track to play in Week 1 barring any late setbacks.
Malik Nabers injury update
Malik Nabers suffered an ankle injury in practice on Sunday. The Giants rookie wide receiver is unlikely to play any more games in the preseason, but his injury is not considered to be serious.
Nabers, the sixth overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft, is projected to have a big role in the Giants' offense, and based on reports, he will be ready to play in Week 1.
Matt Milano injury update
Matt Milano suffered an arm injury in Tuesday's practice. Reports indicate that the Buffalo Bills star has torn his bicep and will have surgery. Milano is currently sidelined indefinitely, but there is a possibility of a return in December.
This is a huge blow for the Bills, who have lost several key players like Stefon Diggs, Jordan Poyer, and Gabe Davis this offseason. The pressure will now be on Von Miller to have a big season for the team, and be the defense's vocal leader in Milano's absence.
Jahmyr Gibbs injury update
Jahmyr Gibbs suffered a hamstring injury during his team's practice on Monday. Similar to Nabers, we are unlikely to see the Detroit Lions running back in the rest of the preseason games.
Lions head coach Dan Campbell is optimistic about Gibbs' health, which indicates that the Alabama product could be ready to play in Week 1. Gibbs had an impressive rookie season and remains a popular choice in fantasy football.
J.J. McCarthy injury update
J.J. McCarthy made his debut for the Vikings in the preseason game against the Las Vegas Raiders. He showed flashes of brilliance and fans were excited about his potential.
Unfortunately, McCarthy will miss the rest of the season due to a knee injury. He will have surgery to repair his torn meniscus, and in his absence, Sam Darnold will be the team's starting quarterback.
Jordan Addison injury update
McCarthy was not the only Vikings player who got hurt this past week. Jordan Addison was carted off the practice due to an ankle injury, and the fans of the team were left worried.
Fortunately for the Vikings, Addison's injury is not considered to be serious, and he could be ready to play in Week 1. The USC product had 70 receptions for 911 yards and 10 touchdowns in 17 games during his rookie season and is a big part of the team's offense alongside Justin Jefferson.
