The Philadelphia Eagles welcome the New Orleans Saints on Sunday for their Week 17 matchup. However, the hosts were unsure of who their starting quarterback would be at the weekend until the eleventh hour.

Nonetheless, Gardner Minshew will start for the Eagles against the Saints. Philadelphia's first-choice quarterback Jalen Hurts has been ruled out with a shoulder injury, even though he did manage to practice with the team on Thursday.

Hurts sprained his throwing shoulder, which put Minshew in the lineup last week against the Dallas Cowboys. Although Minshew managed an impressive 355 passing yards and three touchdowns in total against the Cowboys, he failed to get the Eagles over the line.

While speaking to reporters on Friday, Eagles head coach Nick Sirianni was still doubtful of who will start at quarterback for his team on Sunday. He said:

“We’re still sorting through that. Obviously, Jalen had a good practice yesterday and went out and looked like he did some things really well. So still going to sort through all those things. Haven’t decided anything yet."

However, on Sunday it was confirmed that Minshew will be leading the line for Philadelphia against New Orleans. A win for the Eagles in Week 17 will ensure that they clinch the NFC East title. They are currently 13-2 and have the best record of anyone in the league.

Following their game against the Saints, the Philadelphia Eagles will conclude their regular season by hosting the New York Giants in Week 18. Nick Sirianni's side have been exceptional throughout their journey this season but will be hoping to end on a high as well.

The Eagles have already clinched a playoff berth but they will surely be tested more in the postseason. Philadelphia will be eager to have Jalen Hurts back soon and reports state that the quarterback should return for their clash against the Giants.

However, if the Eagles win this week, they may decide to rest Hurts, as they will have secured their division. If they win and the Minnesota Vikings lose to the Green Bay Packers, Philadelphia will secure the top seed for the conference and a Wild Card bye. The battle for the top seed will be a factor in Hurts' return timeline.
