Will Ezekiel Elliott end up with the Buffalo Bills?

Could the Buffalo Bills, who could use another offensive weapon, be the next team for Ezekiel Elliott?

The former Ohio State running back was recently released by the Dallas Cowboys, saving the team nearly $11 million against the 2023 salary cap. He is now free to sign with any team this offseason.

Elliott was selected by the Cowboys with the fourth overall pick in the 2016 NFL draft. He would instantly emerge as a star, leading the entire league in rushing. His 1,631 yards were the third-most in NFL history behind Eric Dickerson's 1,808 (1983) and George Rogers' 1,674 (1981). More importantly, he teamed up with fellow rookie Dak Prescott to power Dallas to a highly-impressive 13-3 record.

During his seven-year tenure with the Cowboys, Elliott made the Pro Bowl three times, including his stellar rookie season. He also racked up 8,262 career rushing yards, the third-most in franchise history behind Hall of Famers Emmitt Smith and Tony Dorsett.

Elliott was the Cowboys' lead back for years, but was supplanted by Tony Pollard, whose 1,007 rushing yards led the team last season.

While Elliott isn't the big-time star that he used to be, he can still be a solid contributor for any team. He rushed for 876 yards and 12 touchdowns last season, sharing time with Pollard in Dallas' backfield.

Elliot would be a superb pickup for the Bills. He's a big, bruising running back who is known for thriving in short-yardage situations.

Buffalo's Josh Allen rushed for 762 yards in 2022, which is quite a bit for a quarterback. Elliott could take pressure off the franchise QB and help prevent him from having to run so often.

Devin Singetary was the Bills' leading rusher last season with 819 yards, but he is currently a free agent. Should he leave town, the team will obviously need a replacement even if they choose to use James Cook as the lead back next season.

It's possible that Elliot could still return to the Cowboys with him and the team agreeing on a restructured deal. He could also sign with another club like the Tampa Bay Buccaneers or Houston Texans. However, joining the Bills is the perfect landing spot. He could serve as an offensive weapon who could ultimately help the team finally win a Super Bowl.
