Mewtwo ex deck guide: Strategy and how to play

Although the main card of this deck is Mewtwo ex, the key card to enable Mewtwo and deal damage is Gardevoir. This is because of its ability Psy Shadow, which can attach one extra Psychic Energy to your active Pokemon per round. This takes care of Mewtwo ex's drawback of losing two energy after every attack.

Mewtwo ex requires four energy (two Psychic, two Colorless) for Psydrive, however, it loses two energy after the attack. As such, on your next turn, you can attach one energy generated naturally, and Gardevoir will generate one more energy. This will give it four energy to use Psydrive once again.

Setting up Ralts and evolving it to Gardevoir as early as possible is key to succeeding with this Mewtwo ex deck in Pokemon TCG Pocket.

The best starting hand would be Mewtwo ex, Ralts or Kirlia, and Professor's Research. You can put Mewtwo down on the board immediately and start building its energy. If you have Ralts, put all of them on your bench, and use the Professor's Research to draw Kirlia and Gardevoir.

Sabrina and Giovanni are your trump cards. Use them to either buff yourself and force a win or wrench your opponent's plans to rid you of Mewtwo ex. You must ensure that Mewtwo ex stays safe. Once it is set up, there is very little your opponent can do to turn the tides.

Mewtwo ex is your main card, and your target is to get four energy to it and use Psydrive to deal 150 damage. Put your Ralts on board and gradually evolve it to Kirlia and then Gardevoir as early as you can. Mewtwo ex is tanky and has 150 HP, so it can take in a few hits. Use Potion to get its health back once you have set it up.

This is the normal flow that you should try to follow in the game:

  • Put Mewtwo ex in the Active Slot.
  • Set up Ralts on your Bench, and gradually evolve it to Gardevoir.
  • Once you have four energy on Mewtwo ex, use Psydrive. This will knock out most other Pokemon. However, Mewtwo ex will lose two energy after using this move.
  • On your next attack turn, attach one Psychic energy to Mewtwo ex. Gardevoir's passive will generate one more and you are ready to use Psydrive again.
  • Use Giovanni to buff your attack against stronger or more tanky cards.
  • Use Sabrina to mostly force a swap from your opponent when they have super tanky cards like Blastoise ex or Venusaur ex.

This deck is currently one of the top-tier ones and very little can be done to counter it once it gets rolling.
