The San Jose Sharks are a professional ice hockey team in the Western Conference. The franchise is owned by San Jose Sports & Entertainment Enterprises. The Sharks began play in the 1991–92 season. They initially played at the Cow Palace before moving to the SAP Center in 1993, also known as "the Shark Tank." The team is affiliated with the San Jose Barracuda (AHL) and the Wichita Thunder (ECHL).

The San Jose Sharks were founded on May 9, 1990, after being awarded the franchise following the sale of the Minnesota North Stars. They became the first NHL team in the San Francisco Bay Area since the California Golden Seals moved in 1976. San Jose Sharks General Manager

According to Forbes, Mike Grier was named the general manager of the San Jose Sharks on July 5, 2022, making history as the first Black GM in NHL history.
