San Jose Sharks

The San Jose Sharks, based in San Jose, California are a professional ice hockey team. They compete in the NHL's Western Conference. The team was founded in 1991 as part of an expansion, making it the first major North American sports franchise in San Jose. After struggling in their early seasons, the Sharks dramatically improved in 1993–94, making the playoffs. They pulled off one of the biggest upsets in NHL history by defeating the top-seeded Detroit Red Wings.

The Sharks found intermittent success in the following years, including a run to the Western Conference finals in 2003–04. Notable players during this period included Yevgeny Nabokov, Owen Nolan, and Patrick Marleau. Despite consistently reaching the playoffs, San Jose fell short of their Stanley Cup ambitions, with several second-round and conference finals exits. In 2008–09, they had the best regular-season record in the NHL but were upset in the first round by the Anaheim Ducks. In 2015–16, the Sharks had their most successful postseason, capturing their first-ever Western Conference title and advancing to the Stanley Cup finals. They would eventually lose to the Pittsburgh Penguins. The team returned to the playoffs in subsequent seasons but failed to replicate their finals appearance, with their 2018–19 run ending in the conference finals.

The Sharks will look to turn things around on September 26 when they visit the Anaheim Ducks for a late-night matchup at the Honda Center. Following that, they’ll return home to the SAP Center at San Jose to face off against the Utah Grizzlies on October 1 and the Ducks again on October 4. Finally, they’ll wrap up the preseason with a trip back to Vegas on October 5, determined to secure their first victory before the regular season begins.
