In what is turning into a tournament of upsets, after Central Excise men beat fancied IOB Chennai on the inaugural day, the Eastern Railway women’s team delivered a massive blow to the highly rated South Eastern Central Railway.
Eastern Railway, consisting of junior players from West Bengal, beat South Eastern Central Railway, the runners-up from the All India Tournament at Coimbatore last week. Madhukumari’s 21 points and Sidha Mani’s 19 carried Eastern to a dominant 86-65 win.
In other matches, Tamil Nadu team lost their first match of the tournament against Indian Army Delhi after leading by two points at half time (36-34). Indian Air Force, Delhi and ONGC, Dehradun got off to winning starts against Punjab and Vijaya Bank, respectively.
