The Orlando Magic is an American professional basketball team that is part of the Eastern Conference’s Southeast Division in the NBA. The team is based in Orlando, Florida, and plays their home games at the Amway Center.

Throughout these years, Orlando Magic is not just known for its competitive spirit, but also for its iconic players. From Shaquille O'Neal to Penny Hardaway, the team has been home to legends that have left an indelible mark on the game. The Magic’s story is one of resilience, celebrated highs, and lessons learned from challenging lows.

Famous Orlando Magic Players

Dwight Howard

When you speak of dominant centers in the NBA, Dwight Howard's name inevitably emerges. Drafted directly from high school in 2004, Howard quickly ascended to the NBA elite. His athleticism and defensive skills made him a fan favorite. He also won the NBA Defensive Player of the Year award three times from 2009 to 2011 and reached the Finals in 2009.

Shaquille O'Neal

Shaquille O'Neal was drafted by the Orlando Magic with the first overall pick in 1992. In only his third season, he led the league in scoring and helped the Magic reach the NBA Finals in 1995. In four seasons in Orlando, Shaq averaged 27.2 points, 12.5 rebounds and 2.8 blocks per game.

Anfernee "Penny" Hardaway

A guard with the size of a forward, Penny Hardaway's versatility was unmatched. Drafted in 1993, he soon formed a dynamic duo with Shaq. Known for his vision, ball-handling, and scoring ability, Hardaway was instrumental in the team's success during the mid-90s. His synergy with O'Neal is still remembered as one of the most potent partnerships in NBA history.

Tracy McGrady

Joining the Magic in 2000, Tracy McGrady's tenure with the team was synonymous with individual brilliance. Even though team success eluded him during his stay, T-Mac, with his scoring prowess, made the Magic a must-watch team. Winning the NBA scoring title twice during his time in Orlando, McGrady's legacy is that of one of the game’s purest scorers and a beacon of hope for Magic fans during his era.

Darrell Armstrong

Perhaps not as globally renowned as the others, Darrell Armstrong's inclusion is a nod to his heart, hustle, and unwavering commitment. Joining the Magic in the mid-90s, Armstrong became a fan favorite for his energy off the bench. He epitomized the spirit of a fighter, proving that with determination, even an undrafted player could leave a lasting legacy. His tenure with the Magic saw him win both the NBA's Sixth Man of the Year and Most Improved Player awards in 1999.

Orlando Magic History

The Orlando Magic was founded in 1989 in Florida. While the first few seasons were tough for the franchise, they had established themselves as top contenders by the mid-90s.

With superstars Shaquille O’Neal and Penny Hardway, the Orlando Magic shocked the NBA universe and reached the NBA Finals in 1995. In the 2000s, it was Tracy McGrady and Dwight Howard who made the Magic one of the most entertaining teams to watch.

Orlando Magic Owner

Richard DeVos acquired the Magic in 1991 for $85 million. It was not just a business transaction, but it was an opportunity and a new chapter for the city and the DeVos family. After missing a chance to bring Major League baseball to the city, DeVos didn’t skip the opportunity to bring basketball.

The DeVos touch has extended beyond the basketball world. In 2017, RDV Sports broadened its influence by purchasing the Solar Bears, cementing their position in Orlando's sporting sphere. DeVos’ legacy with the Magic didn't end with his passing in 2018. It continues through his children.

Dan DeVos, son of Richard, has been the chairman of the Magic since 2011. His brother Dick DeVos also plays an active role in the team's affairs, showcasing the united front the DeVos family presents. Although Doug DeVos's direct involvement with the Magic isn’t prominent, his tenure as the president of Amway from 2002 to 2018 indicates the depth of the family's influence in various sectors.

Orlando Magic Head Coach

Jamahl Mosley, a distinguished figure in the basketball world, assumed the pivotal role as the 14th head coach of the Orlando Magic on July 11, 2021. Hailing from Milwaukee, Wisconsin, and born on October 6, 1978, Mosley's journey in basketball is both diverse and noteworthy.

Before joining the Orlando Magic, Mosley was the assistant coach of the Denver Nuggets, Dallas Mavericks, and the Cleveland Cavaliers. In Denver, the team saw three consecutive 50-win seasons under his guidance.

Off the court, Mosley is a dedicated family man, cherishing moments with his wife, Kristina, and their three children, Jemma, C.J., and Chance.

Orlando Magic Net Worth

Valued at $1.91 billion, the Orlando Magic holds the No. 24 spot among NBA teams, reflecting its challenges on and off the court. Despite residing in Orlando, a city synonymous with joy thanks to Walt Disney World, the franchise's recent history hasn't mirrored this jubilance.

Over the last decade, the Magic has only graced the playoffs twice, and on both occasions, faced an early exit via a gentleman's sweep. Their quest for an NBA title remains elusive. Yet, their value underscores the team's potential and the loyal fan base that continues to support them, waiting for their magic moment.

Orlando Magic Championships

The Orlando Magic's journey in the NBA, while filled with memorable moments and iconic players, has yet to be graced with an NBA championship. Founded in 1989, the franchise has experienced significant playoff runs, with two notable appearances in the NBA Finals in 1995 and 2009.

Despite having talent-laden rosters led by players like Shaquille O’Neal and Dwight Howard respectively, the ultimate glory eluded them on both occasions. The championship dream remains alive for the Magic and their passionate fanbase, fueling hope and anticipation for the future, where they aspire to claim the coveted Larry O'Brien Trophy.
