Established in 1989, the Orlando Magic is an American professional basketball team that plays in the National Basketball Association. It belongs to the Eastern Conference Southeast Division with a home ground based at Amway Center. The franchise is one of the sides that have never won any NBA title so far. Some of the notable players of the squad include Shaquille O’Neal, Grant Hill, Dwight Howard, Jameer Nelson etc. Also, the club has played in the NBA finals twice but stayed unsuccessful both times.
Amway Center is the home to Orlando Magic. The Arena is located in heart of downtown Orlando. Amway Center was built in 1989, and is now one of the oldest arenas in NBA league.
In Sept 2006, Orlando Mayor and Orlando Magic announced an agreement on a new arena for the team. After the completion of the new Arena for the team is worth ($480 million) and was named Amway Center in August 2009. The new Amway Center is technologically advanced Arena in the NBA league.
In July 2021, Jamahl Mosley was named the head coach of Orlando Magic. Mosley is announced as the 15th head-coach for the franchise. Before joining Orlando Magic, Mosley was an assistant coach with Dallas Mavericks for seven seasons (2014-21), and during this time the franchise managed to reach playoffs four times.
Mosley started playing basketball for Colorado Buffaloes during his college time in 2000. Later he joined Victoria Titans in 2001 for the Australian national Basketball league. In the league, he was named the best sixth man in 2002. Jamahl Mosley is a great communicator and teacher, and has worked for successful coaches like George Karl, and Rick Carlisle which makes him fit for this role.
Orlando Magic is an American professional basketball team that plays in NBA and is based in Orlando, Florida. The franchise started playing NBA in 1989-90 season along with Minnesota Timberwolves. Like other teams in NBA, the Orlando Magic also has their first three years as mediocre with losing records. Later in 1992, Shaquille O’Neal joined Orlando Magic, and the magic started for the franchise when he led the team to 20 wins in his first season.
In 1993, the young Magic team entered the playoffs and advanced to the finals in 1994. Later in 1995-96, O’Neal was traded with Los Angeles Lakers, and the future of the team was nevertheless brighter. With the trade of Turkoglu and Rashard Lewis, the team again reached playoffs in 2008-09 and then advanced to finals in 2009-10 and loosing to the Boston Celtics. Howards was traded to Lkares in August 2012, and Magic then posted the worst record in NBA (20-62) in the same season.
With the new head coach Steve Clifford in 2018-19, Orlando Magic surprises with the division title. Whereas team went through playoffs in 2019-20, but the injury penetrated the 2020-21 season for the franchise when they traded many of the major contributors.
Inarguably, Shaquille O’Neal is one of the greatest centers ever played in the NBA and had a significant impact on the franchise. His numbers and track record speak for themselves and it was always a special feeling to see the big man moving up and down on the court. The game has never seen a player who combined strength, athleticism, quickness and size the way that Shaq did. He played for the franchise during 1992-1996 and conquered plenty of recognition, honors, and awards.
Born in 1985, Dwight Howard is an NBA champion, eight-time NBA All-Star, 5-time All-NBA First Team and has many other records and accolades to his name. He was first selected by the Orlando Magic when he entered the NBA draft in 2004. Earlier, he joined Southwest Atlanta Christian Academy and following his high school accomplishments, he proceeded to declare for the NBA draft. Dwight Howard is an eight-time NBA All-Star, 5-time, All-NBA First Team, 3-time NBA Defensive Player of the Year, and has many other rewards and achievements. The center was traded to the Los Angeles Lakers in 2012 after 8 seasons with the Orlando Magic.
Jameer Nelson was named an NBA All-Star in 2009 and NBA All-Rookie Second Team in 2005. He is a professional American basketball player who spent the first ten years of his NBA career with the Orlando Magic. Nelson began playing basketball at Saint Joseph’s University in the 2000-01 season and also led the Saint Joseph’s Hawks to a regular season (27-0) record in 2003-04. The Point Guard also played for the Dallas Mavericks, Boston Celtics, Denver Nuggets, New Orleans Pelicans, and Detroit Pistons later.
The professional American basketball player served as a scorer with the Seattle SuperSonics in the NBA. In July 2007, Lewis joined the Orlando Magic after spending his first 9 seasons for the SuperSonics. He represented his side three times in the NBA Finals and won the championship for the Miami Heat in 2013. The 1979-born Power Forward player was a 2-time NBA All-Star, Mr. Basketball USA, and Texas Mr. Basketball. Rashard Lewis also played for the Washington Wizards (2010-2012) and the Miami Heat (2012-2014) before leaving the Magic in 2010.
The former NBA player Grant Henry Hill is a co-owner and executive of the Atlanta Hawks. He entered the NBA before spending four years in college basketball. He played the Small Forward position for most of his career. Grant was picked by the Detroit Pistons in the 3rd overall pick in the NBA draft in 1994. He joined the Orlando Magic after leaving the Pistons in 2000. Hill also played for the Phoenix Suns and Los Angeles Clippers.
Historically, the Orlando Magic came into existence in 1989 as an expansion franchise. The idea of introducing a new franchise took birth in 1985 when Orlando businessman Jim L. Hewitt met Philadelphia 76ers general manager Pat Williams in Texas. In 1986, the name ‘Magic’ was selected for the new franchise. In 1991, the founders of Amway, the DeVos family purchased the Orlando Magic franchise for US$85 million. Alongside RDV Sports, Dan DeVos serves as a chairman of the Orlando Magic and as a member of the NBA Board of Governors.
