Formed in 2002, the New Orleans Pelicans is one of the newer franchise clubs in the National Basketball Association. Originally, it came into existence as the New Orleans Hornets and temporarily relocated to Oklahoma City due to hurricane Katrina in 2005. It spent two seasons (2005-06 and 2006-07) as the New Orleans/Oklahoma City Hornets and became the New Orleans Pelicans in 2013. The franchise contains no NBA and Conference title in the record but a Division (2008) title. Willie Green is the head coach of the franchise.

The team proceeded to play the Conference semifinals in 2007-08 but lost to San Antonio Spurs by 4-3.
