About New Orleans Pelicans Depth Chart

The New Orleans Pelicans depth chart for the 2023-24 NBA season will present a challenge to compete at the highest level in the Western Conference. Led by the exceptional mid-range maestro Brandon Ingram, the Pelicans are primed for success. The return of Zion Williamson from injury will help immensely as he will form a fearsome duo with Ingram unlike any other in the NBA.

With Ingram playing shooting guard or small forward and Williamson at power forward, they bring a unique combination of talent. Rounding out the Pelicans' “Big Three” is the veteran presence of CJ McCollum, who brings leadership and experience to the backcourt.

With Zion Williamson finally healthy and ready to make an impact, the Pelicans are going to be a force to be reckoned with. Zion will be paired with Lithuanian center Jonas Valančiūnas who is a stretch-five with an outstanding post game. Alongside them, Herb Jones will be deployed who is easily one of the best young defenders in the league. Jones is a lockdown defender while also contributing on the offensive end as a reliable shooter and slasher.

In the backcourt, Brandon Ingram predominantly takes on the shooting guard role, though there are instances where Herb Jones transitions into the shooting guard position. The duo of Ingram and Jones exhibits incredible versatility as both of them can seamlessly alternate between playing shooting guard and small forward depending on the flow of any given possession in the game.

However, Ingram mostly playing as a shooting guard is one adjustment that allows for the emergence of Herb Jones at small forward. At point guard, CJ McCollum takes on the responsibilities of ball-handling and playmaking to create scoring opportunities for his teammates. CJ himself is a great mid-range shooter.

The Pelicans depth chart extends to their bench unit, which ranks among the best in the NBA. Larry Nance Jr. adds versatility and explosiveness along with his ability to play multiple frontcourt positions and provide solid defense off the bench. Naji Marshall offers valuable support at power forward behind Zion Williamson, while Cody Zeller provides depth at the center position behind Jonas Valančiūnas. In the backcourt, youthful energy is evident with pesky guard defender Jose Alvarado and Australian Dyson Daniels. Both of them are capable of providing instant spark off the bench with their ball-handling, scoring prowess, and defense. However, the true X-factor for the Pelicans off the bench is Trey Murphy III, a sharpshooter known for his elite shooting from the 3-point territory.
