Canada, Puerto Rico, Brazil, Cuba entered the semifinals of the ongoing 2013 FIBA Americas Championship for women at Xalapa, Mexico.

Following the completion of the preliminary round of the championship, Canada and Cuba entered the semifinals as the group A winners and runners up respectively while Brazil and Puerto Rico were winners and runners up respectively of Group B.

In the last day of the preliminary round of the championship, Venezuela lost to Jamaica 61 – 81, Cuba lost to Canada 40 – 53, Puerto Rico dominated Dominican Republic 84 – 59 and hosts Mexico lost to Brazil 45 – 97.

After the completion of the preliminary round of the championship, here is how the group standing looks like.

GROUP A

  1. Canada: 8 points
  2. Cuba: 7 points
  3. Chile: 5 points
  4. Jamaica: 5 points
  5. Venezuela: 5 points

GROUP B

  1. Brazil: 8 points
  2. Puerto Rico: 7 points
  3. Argentina: 6 points
  4. Dominican Republic: 5 points
  5. Mexico: 4 points

Canada will play Puerto Rico while Brazil will face Cuba in the semifinals of the championship.

Ten countries are fighting for continental honours in the 12th edition of the competition. The top three teams from the tournament will qualify for the 2014 FIBA World Championship for women in Turkey.
