Cuba and Canada entered the final of the ongoing 2013 FIBA Americas Championship for women at Xalapa, Mexico. With the entry to the final of the competition, both Canada and Cuba have also confirmed their ticket to the 2014 FIBA World Championship for women in Turkey.

In the first semifinal, Canada defeated Puerto Rico, 73-48, to enter the gold medal match and qualify for the 2014 FIBA World Championship for Women in Turkey.

Canada took the first quarter 26 – 8 and Puerto Rico took the second quarter 18 – 13. After the halftime break, Canada were all out attacking and they took the remaining two quarters 19 – 14 & 15 – 8 respectively to enter the final of the championship.

Anne Kimberley top scored with 14 points for Canada while Carla Daniela netted game-high 22 points for Puerto Rico.

In the second semifinal, Cuba upset Brazil 72 – 68 to enter the final of the championship and set date with Canada for the gold medal match. Cuba took first two quarters 22 – 15 & 18 – 6 respectively. Despite Brazil taking the last two quarters 28 – 15 and 19 – 17 respectively, it was not enough to stop Cuba to enter the final.

Brazil will face Puerto Rico in the third place match and most importantly for the single remaining ticket for the 2014 FIBA World Championship for women in Turkey.

Ten countries are fighting for continental honours in the 12th edition of the competition. The top three teams from the tournament will qualify for the 2014 FIBA World Championship for women in Turkey.
