2015 FIBA Championships: India record second straight win, defeat Hong Kong 76-71

The Indian basketball team recorded their second consecutive win on the trot at the FIBA Asia Championships after defeating Hong Kong 76-71 in the second round on Monday, FIBA reports. After beginning on a slow note, the Indian cagers really increased their tempo in the final two quarters of the game to seal their second straight victory.

The hero from the match against Palestine, Amjyot Singh Gill was once again in his elements, scoring 26 points, 12 rebounds, 4 assists and 3 blocks and was well supported by skipper Vishesh Bhriguvanshi, who scored 16 points and Amrit Pal Singh, who accounted for 15 points on the day.

For Hong Kong, it was Wong Chui Wei who top scored with 21 points and Duncan Reid gave him good support with 12 points.

The victory further boosts India’s chances of progressing through to the quarterfinals of the tournament and they will face Philippines tomorrow, who are currently third on the table. A defeat to them will not put India’s chances of going through in jeopardy, but they will look to win in order to keep the winning run going.

The Indians are currently in second place with 6 points but they and Hong Kong have played an extra game as compared to the rest.
