25th FIBA Asia Championship for Women: Japan thrash India to maintain 100% winning record

East Asian heavyweight Japan thrashed South Asian Basketball Association (SABA) representative India 81–40 to maintain its 100% winning record in the ongoing 25th FIBA ASIA Championship for Women held at Thai capitol, Bangkok. India lost all the quarters 8-24, 10-19, 10-22 and 12-16 to lost its fourth match in the championship while Japan are the only unbeaten team in the championship. Asako O netted a game-high 15 points for Japan while Geethu Anna Jose netted 14 points for India.

With the loss, India lies on the bottom of the Level 1 and are struggling to remain in Level 1 of the championship. India have one match remaining to play in Level 1 of the championship. If India remains in the last position, they will face the top team from Level 2 and the winner will play Level 1 in the next championship while the loser will have to play in the Level 2 in the next FIBA Asia Championship for Women.

Level 1

  • Kazakhstan 56-92 Korea
  • Chinese Taipei 63-85 China

Level 2

  • Uzbekistan 70-62 Hong Kong
  • Philippines 56-60 Malaysia
  • Thailand 75-61 Indonesia

A total of 12 teams are participating in the 25th edition of the FIBA ASIA Championship for Women which is ongoing at Bangkok from October 27 to November 3, 2013.

The championship is divided into two levels; Level 1 and 2, with 6 teams participating in each level. China, Chinese Taipei, India, Japan, Kazakhstan and Korea will compete in Level 1 while Hong Kong, Indonesia, Malaysia, Philippines, Thailand and Uzbekistan will compete in Level 2 of the championship.

Top three teams from the championship will qualify for the FIBA World Championship for Women to be played in Turkey from September 27 to October 5, 2014.
