Philippines and Thailand won the men’s and women’s gold medals respectively in the basketball event of the 27th Southeast Asian Games held at Myanmar.

Philippines defeated Malaysia 84-56 to win the men’s gold medal in the final match played at Thiri Stadium in Nay Pyi Taw, Myanmar. Philippines won all the six games to accomplish a clean sweep of the tournament. It is the 16th gold medal for the Philippines in the biannual meet and it continues their basketball supremacy in the Southeast Asian region.

Bobby Ray scored 18 points for Philippines while Kevin Alas netted 13 points for the winners. Malaysia’s Hong Hoong Gan top scored with 11 points for his team.

Singapore won the bronze in the men’s category.

In the women’s category, Thailand secured gold, the Philippines, silver, and Malaysia took home the bronze medal.
