Efficiency is the most commonly used statistical benchmark for comparing the overall value of players. It is a composite basketball statistic that is derived from basic individual statistics: points, rebounds, assists, steals, blocks, turnovers and shot attempts. Basically, it tells you which player is the best on paper.

This article will take you through the best NBA players on in each position.

NOTE: This article is based on the stats provided by the rating method called "Player Efficiency Rating" developed by ESPN Basketball Statistician John Hollinger.

Point Guard - James Harden, Houston Rockets

James Harden
James Harden

Commonly known as The Beard, James Harden is the most efficient Point Guard in the NBA. Houston Rockets are currently sitting on top of the Western Conference Standings and one of the main reasons for that is a man no other than James Harden. With his elite finishing skills and impossible to match court vision, The Beard is leading the pack.

Once again he is a front-runner for the MVP Race and if he keeps on going at this level, this time there won't be a Russell Westbrook to steal the title from him.

He has the richest contract in NBA history after signing a total six-year deal with $228 million guaranteed with the Houston Rockets.

Shooting Guard - Victor Oladipo, Indiana Pacers

Best Two-Way Guard in the NBA?
Best Two-Way Guard in the NBA?

Demar DeRozan? Klay Thompson? No. We're talking about Mr.540, the man himself, Victor Oladipo. The former Oklahoma City Thunder Guard is setting the Pacers' court on fire after being traded away in a deal which consisted of Paul George joining the Thunder.

The 2015 Slam Dunk Finalist has been turning the tables by leading The Pacers to the 5th position in The Eastern Conference Standings and a record of 16-11. There isn't a night where you can't find Victor trying to bring the rim down with one of his emphatic dunks.

This may come as a surprise to all but, if Mr.540 continues to perform this way, then there's no stopping him from becoming an NBA All-Star.

Small Forward - LeBron James, Cleveland Cavaliers

Age is just a number for The King.

The King of the NBA, LeBron James is currently the best player. Not only is he the most efficient small forward, he is the most efficient player in the NBA.

The four-time MVP is carrying the Cleveland Cavaliers single-handedly every night and has led them to a 13-game winning streak. The departure of Kyrie Irving didn't affect the King much and made him push himself more towards his fourth NBA Championship.

James and co. had a rough start to the season but have gathered pace and currently sit second, with a record of 19-8. With Isaiah Thomas recovering from his injury soon, the Cleveland Cavaliers are only expected to get better upon the point guard's return from injury.

LeBron James, who is also a front-runner for the MVP race, is expected to enter free agency in the 2018 offseason.

Power Forward - Giannis Antetokounmpo, Milwaukee Bucks

Giannis Antetokounmpo
Can he take The King's place in the league?

The Greek Freak is a young prodigy in the NBA. The 6ft-11inch power forward is a beast on the floor. Shooting, Dunking, Passing, Blocking, you name it? This man can do it all.

Only The King is more efficient than the Greek Freak. But, Giannis is stated to replace him as the best player in the league in the coming year. This man can play it all. Interestingly, The Greek Freak was the starting point guard for the Bucks last season.

There isn't one night when Giannis doesn't posterize an NBA player. He leads his team in every state and has led them to the fourth place in the eastern conference standings with a 15-10 record.

Center - Hassan Whiteside, Miami Heat

Defensive Player of the year?

Agent Block, as he likes to call himself, is currently the best Defensive Player in the NBA.

Young Whiteside is famously known for blocking and catching the ball mid-air from players instead of just blocking it away.

Unfortunately, Whiteside is injured and is unable to play for the Miami Heat. But when he's healthy, He is a Defensive beast on the floor. He made a whopping 161 blocks last season.

With the Heat hoping for another playoff appearance, they will be relying on the 7-ft Shot Blocker. Whiteside is expected to return by the end of the year.
