The seventh edition of the Savio Cup basketball tournament is set to begin at the Don Bosco High School in Matunga, Mumbai, from 8 January, 2012. The tournament features both men and women.

Some of the participating teams were in the top ten for men/women in the 62nd Nationals as well:
(The points in the second table were given by assigning 10 points for 1st place, 9 points for 2nd place and so on. This is an in-house analysis and hasn’t been officially released by BFI. It is open to interpretation. These seven teams had both their men and women’s teams in the top 10.)
Having teams from the Nationals will promise a high level of competition, with the teams looking for another stab at each other so quickly after the Nationals.
One of the teams in the Savio Cup, Shooting for Success, is from USA. They had lost to Indian Railways last year. They will be looking for redemption this year. Their captain/coach, David ‘DJ’ Jones had said: “We want to get better each time and keep the fans on the edge of their seats with excitement. The Savio Cup loss left a bad taste in our mouths but we are back here to win.”
This is a prominent basketball event on the Indian calendar, and will feature a high level of competition. There will also be other fun events at the Cup besides the main matches.
