Air Jordan XX9 Review
The newest colorways of the Air Jordan XX9 were launched on 15th April, 2015 and they arrived just in time for the playoffs. Some say that Air Jordan XX9 is the most technologically advanced basketball shoe available. Let’s take a closer look at Air Jordan XX9.
First off, the Air Jordan XX9 is 8% lighter than XX8.
First let’s look at how Air Jordan XX9 fits. They fit true to size and the lockdown is incredible. There is no slip and slide, which is great. One problem here is just above average ventilation. The ventilation just doesn’t feel right.
Flight Weave upper is the biggest technological innovation seen in the shoe. It is specifically designed to give a custom fit and at the same time it retains strength during moment. The basic elements that helped in making the Flight Weave upper are Nike’s Flyknit and Hyperfuse. It feels much more stable than the previous model.
The heel’s zoom unit is removed but the XX9 still offers pretty good cushioning. Flight Plate is back. FlightPlate spreads weight out evenly, this results in a better sweet spot which in turn optimizes energy return. The plate material is made of carbon fiber, is strong enough but at the same time feels weightless.
The heel offers a great combination of protection and stability. Traditional foam replaced Air in XX9. The cushioning isn't quite as responsive as XX8, but it is still one of the best available in the market.
The outsole features anatomical sculpting in the heel and forefoot, and uses a vertical wave pattern. This means that the traction on the court is amazing. The outsole of XX9 is more durable than the outsole of XX8. The internal heel counter provides amazing heel lockdown.
The transition in XX9 is just as smooth as its previous generation. The upper is also extremely light and durable. A skinny bridge connects the forefoot and heel and is unlike the XX8. Transition is definitely not a strong point in the shoe. The upper fully hugs the foot and lockdown is great. Large gap between heel and toe makes the ride less smooth than some other shoes available in the market.
It has the basic support features, the heel counter and the outrigger to name a few. The more you wear the XX9, the more comfortable they become, this is largely due to the woven upper. It also helps wider foot to adjust in comfortably.
All the latest advancements make the 29th edition of Air Jordan an absolute dream of a shoe. It is comfortable and at the same time supportive. If you’re a serious basketball player, you definitely shouldn’t Air Jordan XX9.
It is priced at $225 i.e. around 14,000 INR and is available on the Nike store. Availability in India is TBA.
Bottom-line: The Lightest Air Jordan to date.
