Brazil won the South American U17 Women’s Basketball Championship by defeating Argentina 86 – 63 in the final of the championship.

Brazil took control of the match since the beginning as it took all quarters 24 – 22, 12 – 8, 27 – 22 and 23 – 11 respectively to win the South American U19 Women’s basketball championship.

Both Brazil and Argentina have secured their spot in the 2014 FIBA Americas U18 Women’s Championship. Silva Thayna netted game-high 25 points of Brazil while Magali Aldana was top scorer for Argentina with 12 points.

Earlier in the semifinals, Brazil defeated Chile 85-65 while Argentina defeated hosts Ecuador 73-41 to enter the final of the championship. Meanwhile Chile defeated hosts Ecuador 85 – 55 to claim third spot in the championship.

Eight South American countries participated in the championship which is being held in the city of Porto Viejo, Ecuador from 21 October to 25 October 2013.

Damiris Dantas of Brazil was named the MVP of the tournament
