Chris Paul Trade Rumors: Top 5 teams where Suns' veteran can land next season

Los Angeles Clippers v Phoenix Suns - Game Five
Exploring Chris Paul trade rumors

Following the Phoenix Suns' exit from the playoffs, Chris Paul has been a name to pop up in trade rumors. At 38 years old, the new ownership might be looking for some change in the backcourt next to Devin Booker. Here are some possible landing spots if Phoenix does decide to move the future Hall of Famer.

5 teams where Chris Paul could land if traded

1) Philadelphia 76ers

Depending on how things go for the Philadelphia 76ers this summer, they could be a team to watch for Chris Paul. James Harden intends to decline his player option, and is set to become an unrestricted free agent.

If Harden does decided to reunite with the Houston Rockets, Philly will have a hole to fill at the point guard position. Despite being in his late 30s, Paul could make sense for Philadelphia. He can be Joel Embiid's new partner in the pick-and-roll, and could mentor Tyrese Maxey as he gets closer to his prime years.

2) Houston Rockets

All year, the Houston Rockets have made it clear they want to speed up their rebuild. They've been connected to multiple big name free agents as they look to get back into the playoff picture.

If James Harden decides not to re-sign in Houston, reports have suggested that Chris Paul could be a target for the Rockets.

In terms of fit, Paul might make more sense for Houston than Harden. He commands the ball less as a scorer, which means he won't hinder the development of Jalen Green or Jabari Smith Jr.

3) LA Clippers

Another team that could express interest in Chris Paul is one of his former teams. The LA Clippers are also a good trade partner for the Phoenix Suns because they have the depth pieces to get a trade like this done.

The Clippers going after Paul would largely depend on what decision they make with Russell Westbrook. If they opt not to bring him back next year, they'll surely be in the market for a point guard.

4) Chicago Bulls

After missing the playoffs this season, the Chicago Bulls are a team that will be looking to make changes this offseason. One route they could go is bringing in more experience in the form of Chris Paul.

Since signing Lonzo Ball, he has missed a ton of time due to injury. He is expected to miss all of next year, which could open the door for a possible Paul trade. With him running the offense, it will take playmaking responsibilities off of Zach LaVine and DeMar DeRozan.

5) Dallas Mavericks

The last team on this list is a bit of a dark horse. Similar to the Philadelphia 76ers, the Dallas Mavericks have a free-agent star on their hands this summer. Depending on what Kyrie Irving decides to do, the organization might need to be ready to pivot this offseason.

Everyone knows that Irving and Kevin Durant share a close bond off the court. This leaves the door open for a possible reunion in Phoenix.

If this were to happen, the Mavericks would likely target Deandre Ayton over Paul, but the NBA has proven that anything can happen when it comes to star trades.
