The Cleveland Cavaliers face the Atlanta Hawks on Friday in a crucial Emirates NBA Cup showdown. A win by the Cavs would improve their record to 2-1 and drop their opponents’ win-loss slate to 2-2. Cleveland moves closer to the next round if it can pull off a road win.

Meanwhile, the Hawks hope Trae Young can play as he is on the injury report due to right Achilles tendinitis. He is listed as probable, so he has a big chance to suit up. The Hawks take control of the East Group C with a win.

Cleveland Cavaliers vs Atlanta Hawks preview

The Cleveland Cavaliers suffered just their second loss of the season on Wednesday when they went down to the Hawks 135-124. Despite Donovan Mitchell, Jarrett Allen, Evan Mobley and Darius Garland playing well, Cleveland surrendered a 19-point lead to lose at home.

While Cleveland’s offense remains the best in the NBA, its defense can be lackadaisical at times. They allowed seven Hawks to score in double digits. Trae Young gashed them for 20 points and 22 assists. If the Cavs' defense doesn’t step up, the Hawks could win the rematch.

The Atlanta Hawks pulled off the upset against the Cavaliers because of their resilience and execution on both ends of the floor. They weren’t fazed by their opponents’ high-powered offense and stayed within striking distance. The Hawks made more clutch plays in the fourth quarter to win.

Cleveland will be motivated to get its revenge, so Atlanta has to be ready. If the Cavaliers come out hot and take a big lead, the Hawks have to keep their composure like they did on Wednesday. They have a good chance of earning another big win if they can replicate what they did in their previous meeting with the Cavs.

Cleveland Cavaliers vs Atlanta Hawks betting tips

Donovan Mitchell will face Dyson Daniels again in the rematch against the Hawks. The All-Star guard dropped 30 against Daniels and Co. in their first meeting. Daniels is an excellent defender, but the Cavaliers have other weapons who can force the Hawks to play Spida one-on-one.

To get their revenge, the Cavaliers need Mitchell to be on point. The high-scoring guard could go over his 26.5 (O/U) points prop on Friday.

Trae Young is averaging 12.8 assists per game in November. He had a season-high 22 dimes on Wednesday against the Cavaliers. Ice Trae likely tops the 11.5 (O/U) assists prop in front of Hawks fans.

Cleveland Cavaliers vs Atlanta Hawks prediction

Donovan Mitchell and Co. were frustrated with the way they lost to the Atlanta Hawks at home. In the postgame interview, Spida noted that they didn’t execute like usual but said the team would be ready for the rematch.

The Cleveland Cavaliers could get their revenge, but the Hawks will likely cover the -7.5 spread.
