Dallas Mavericks Preview
As we enter December, it appears that the Dallas Mavericks are genuine contenders. While many teams in the West have faded after making promising starts, the Mavericks have continued to get stronger, and Friday's win over the Phoenix Suns improved their record to 12-6.
Only three other teams are averaging more points per game (118.0) than Rick Carlisle's side, and there could still be more to come if Kristaps Porzingis can hit form over the coming months. The Mavericks also face a favorable schedule over the next two weeks, and a win over the high-flying Lakers would be their biggest statement of the season so far.
Key Player - Luka Doncic
Luka Doncic scored 42 points during Dallas' win over the Suns, and the 20-year-old finished the November averaging a 30-point triple-double. Doncic has also already dropped a 40-point triple-double on the Lakers this season, and he will be looking to cement his status as a leading MVP contender at Staples Center.
Mavericks Predicted Lineup:
Kristaps Porzingis, Dorian Finney-Smith, Dwight Powell, Luka Doncic, Tim Hardaway Jr
Los Angeles Lakers Preview
The Los Angeles Lakers were expected to be among the contenders heading into the season, although few believed that Frank Vogel's team would be this impressive. Friday's win over the Washington Wizards extended LA's winning run to 10 games, and the Lakers have lost just once since opening night.
LeBron James and Anthony Davis have led the charge, although the superstar pairing has received plenty of support from the likes of Danny Green and Dwight Howard. Ultimately, the Lakers have made an almost perfect start to the season, although they will face a tough test against the Mavericks.
Key Player - Anthony Davis
Despite the presence of James, Davis has been the number one option on Los Angeles' offense, and the 26-year-old is averaging 26.1 points and 9.2 rebounds. Davis has also produced big performances this week against the New Orleans Pelicans and Washington Wizards, and the Mavericks will find it difficult to stop him.
Lakers Predicted Lineup:
Anthony Davis, LeBron James, JaVale McGee, Kentavious Caldwell-Pope, Danny Green
Mavericks vs Lakers Match Prediction
Following their thrilling clash at the start of November, this promises to be a hugely exciting affair. Both teams have significant firepower, and while the Lakers have been excellent at home, Dallas possesses one of the NBA's best road records. Ultimately, the result will come down to which star duo performs better, and with Porzingis struggling, the Lakers are the slight favorites.
