Denver Nuggets Preview
After a scintillating 2018/19 NBA season in which they almost pipped the Golden State Warriors to the top spot in the Western Conference Standings, the Denver Nuggets were expected to cool off this season.
However, that's not been the case and they've continued from where they left off last campaign. The Nuggets opened the season with three consecutive victories and although defeats to the Dallas Mavericks and New Orleans Pelicans pegged them back, another three-game win streak has propelled them to the second spot in the West.
The Nuggets' most recent triumph came against the Philadelphia 76ers in rather spectacular fashion as they erased a 21-point fourth-quarter deficit to secure a 100-97 victory and improve to 6-2 for the season.
They will now set their sights on the Minnesota Timberwolves when they travel to Minneapolis on Sunday.
Key Player - Nikola Jokic
Nikola Jokic has quickly developed into the finest center in the NBA. He was selected to the All-NBA first team for his efforts last season and averaged 16.2 points, 9.6 rebounds and 5.2 assists per game.
He shrugged off a slow start to the 2019/20 season to explode for 26 points against the 76ers, helping his side rally late on. Jokic's biggest moment in the game came when he hit an off-balanced 20-foot shot with just over a second remaining.
He also finished with 11 rebounds and six assists and outplayed Joel Embiid for the first time in his career.
Nuggets predicted lineup
Will Barton, Paul Millsap, Nikola Jokic, Jamal Murray, Gary Harris
Minnesota Timberwolves Preview
The Minnesota Timberwolves have exceeded expectations eight games into the new season. The Timberwolves have picked up five victories, including their most recent OT thriller against the Golden State Warriors, and enter their upcoming clash against the Denver Nuggets high on confidence.
The Timberwolves have had huge contributions from the likes of Karl-Anthony Towns and Andrew Wiggins of late, and will hope for their star duo to step up once more when they welcome the Denver caravan to Target Center,
Key Player - Karl-Anthony Towns
Karl-Anthony Towns has begun this season looking like he has a point to prove. Towns already has two 35+ point games and is averaging 26.8 points and 11.8 rebounds per contest.
After being suspended for a couple of games following his involvement in a brawl with Joel Embiid, Towns impressed on his return to the starting lineup, scoring 25 and 20 points against the Memphis Grizzlies and Golden State Warriors respectively.
He will now be relishing his chance to go up against one of the best big men in the NBA, and his battle with Nikola Jokic could play a major role in determining the outcome of the contest.
Timberwolves predicted lineup
Robert Covington, Treveon Graham, Karl-Anthony Towns, Andrew Wiggins, Jarrett Culver
Nuggets vs Timberwolves Match Prediction
The Denver Nuggets enter this clash riding a three-game win streak and are firm favorites, on paper, to make it four. They've dominated the recent head-to-head between these two sides, winning all four games last season.
Denver boast of one of the best benches in the NBA and should have enough depth to see off the Minnesota challenge.
