China won their third U-16 title in a row defeating Philippines 85 – 78 in the gold medal match of the third FIBA Asia U16 Championship for boys held at Tehran, Iran.
China outscored their opponents in the opening two quarters, 24-20 and 18-15 respectively, to take comfortable lead going to the half-time break. After the break, Philippines took the third quarter 20-17 but China took the last quarter 26-23 for the win.
China won the previous two titles at 2009 Johor Bahru and 2011 Nha Trang.
Yanhao Zhao netted game-high 25 points for China while Jose Lorenzo Mendoza top scored with 20 points for Philippines.
Japan beat Chinese Taipei 85 – 72 to win bronze. India finished in eleventh place.
China along with Philippines and Japan will represent FIBA Asia at the 2014 FIBA World U17 Championship to be held in Dubai from 2014 June 26 to July 6.
