FIBA Asia U16 Championship: India lose to Jordan in OT

India U16, South Asian Basketball Association’s (SABA) representative at the ongoing third FIBA ASIA U16 Championship at Tehran, Iran, went down fighting against West Asia Basketball Association’s (WABA) representative, Jordan in hard-fought overtime contest.

India lost their opening match of the championship 97-100. India took the first quarter 22-20 and also took the second quarter 20-16 to go into the halftime break with six-point lead.

After the break, Jordan took the third quarter 24-23. Going to the last quarter , India led by five points but Jordan took the last quarter 26-21 to level the score and force the match into overtime.

In OT, India could not hold their nerve as Jordan outscored them 14-11 to win the match, by three points.

Khaled Abuaboud top scored with 24 points for Jordan while India’s skipper Mahipal Singh finished with a game-high 25 points.

In another match on opening day, Chinese Taipei beat Kazakhstan 109-82. India is pitted in Group C with Jordan and Japan. The final of the championship will be held on 4th October 2013.
