FIBA Asia U16 Championship: India went down to Japan

India went down to Japan 71-85 on day three of the ongoing third FIBA Asia U16 Boys Championship at Tehran, Iran.

Japan took the first two quarters 23-19 and 21-10 respectively while India tried to get back into the match by taking the third quarter 19-18. With the fourth quarter seeing both team score 23 points each, India couldn’t beat Japan. Despite the loss, India have advanced to the second round of the competition.

In the other matches on day three of the championship, China thrashed Bahrain 92-43, Hong Kong went down to Syria 66-75, Korea ripped Malaysia 105-72, Iran beat Thailand 71-51 and Philippines lost 90-95 to Ch. Taipei.

After the completion of the preliminary round, Hong Kong and Thailand crashed out of the championship. Here is the group breakdown and standing of the second round of the championship.

GROUP E

  1. China (CHN): 4 points
  2. Korea (KOR): 4 points
  3. Iran, I.R. (IRI): 3 points
  4. Syria (SYR): 3 points
  5. Malaysia (MAS): 2 points
  6. Bahrain (BRN): 2 points

GROUP F

  1. Japan (JPN): 4 points
  2. Chinese Taipei (TPE): 4 points
  3. Philippines (PHI): 3 points
  4. Jordan (JOR): 3 points
  5. India (IND): 2 points
  6. Kazakhstan (KAZ): 2 points

The top three teams from the 3rd FIBA Asia U16 Championship will represent FIBA Asia in the 2014 FIBA U17 World Championship to be played in Dubai (UAE) from Aug 7-17, 2014. China have won gold medals in the first two editions of the FIBA Asia U16 Championship.
