Boston Celtics star Al Horford’s wife Amelia Vega shared a heartwarming tribute to her husband after he received his first NBA championship ring on Tuesday. The Celtics players were presented with their 2023-24 NBA championship rings just before tipping off their 2024-25 season against the New York Knicks at TD Garden.
Horford’s journey to the NBA title took 18 years. The 38-year-old veteran made his NBA debut in 2007, playing for four different teams, including two stints with the Celtics, before finally winning a championship last season. The five-time NBA All-Star also became the first Dominican-born player to win an NBA championship and was honored with his country’s highest distinction in September.
Amelia Vega, who was crowned Miss Universe in 2003 at the age of 18, shared a touching photo on Wednesday featuring herself, Horford, their five children, and the Larry O'Brien Championship Trophy. In her heartfelt Instagram post, she included a loving five-word caption acknowledging her husband’s dedication and perseverance throughout his career.

Horford and Amelia, both well-known figures from the Dominican Republic, tied the knot on Christmas Eve in 2011 after two years of dating. The couple has five children together, with their first child born in 2015 and their youngest arriving in 2022.
Amelia has stood by Horford through every major milestone
Amelia Vega knows a thing or two about making history, having become the first Miss Universe from the Dominican Republic in 2003. Amelia has been by Al Horford’s side through every major milestone.
In September, when Horford was awarded the prestigious "Order of Merit of Duarte, Sánchez, and Mella in the degree of knight" by President Luis Abinader of the Dominican Republic, Amelia was right there beside him, supporting her husband as always.
"I knew I was going to come meet the president, but I didn't know I was gonna get the highest award for the country," Horford had said after receiving the country's highest honor. "So, very special for me, very special for my family. I feel very proud right now. Very overwhelmed with a lot of emotion. Very, very special day for me today."
Meanwhile, Horford remains a crucial part of the Boston Celtics' lineup. In the season opener against the Knicks, the veteran center started for the team, contributing 11 points on 4 of 7 shooting, including an impressive 3 of 5 from beyond the arc.
