The Golden State Valkyries travel south to face the LA Sparks in the Commissioner's Cup on Monday night. This is the third meeting between the two Californian teams. Their two previous games have been split, with the last game at Crypto.com Arena going in favor of the Valkyries.
Both teams are coming off wins, with the LA Sparks (3-6) beating the Dallas Wings 93-79, while the Valkyries (3-5) won 95-68 against the Las Vegas Aces. Before their respective wins, the Golden State and LA were on losing streaks of four and three games, respectively.
The Valkyries started their season with a loss to LA but made a quick turnaround, defeating the Mystics, avenging their opening day loss to the Sparks. However, they then went on a losing spree, succumbing to the Liberty twice, followed by defeats to the Minnesota Lynx and the Phoenix Mercury. Their win against the high-flying Aces will be a huge boost before their game in Los Angeles.

Meanwhile, the Sparks followed their victory in the first game with three straight losses to the Lynx, Mercury and the Valkyries before defeating the Chicago Sky at home. They then lost to the Atlanta Dream, Mercury and the Aces and ended their losing streak with a win against the struggling Dallas Wings.
