The Golden State Warriors take on the Houston Rockets on Wednesday in the quarterfinals of the Emirates NBA Cup. Steph Curry and Co., who are 2-0 in the season series against their opponents, hope to keep their dominance over them. The Dubs will look to book their ticket to Las Vegas with a win.
The Rockets lost 99-93 to the Warriors on Thursday even with Curry and Draymond Green playing cheerleaders from on the sidelines. For Houston to advance, they must beat their visitors, who have their superstars ready to play. Jalen Green can’t afford another bad game if the Rockets want to knock out the Dubs.

Golden State Warriors vs Houston Rockets: Key matchups
Alperen Sengun vs. Draymond Green
Draymond Green watched from the sidelines as Alperen Sengun nearly dragged the Rockets to win in Golden State on Thursday. The emerging star had 12 points in the fourth quarter in the Rockets’ loss. Sengun is questionable, but if he is cleared to play, Green will likely be his primary defender.
The former Defensive Player of the Year regularly takes on the opposing team’s best big men. It will shock many if the Dubs’ defensive lynchpin does not spend most of his time on defense shadowing the Turkish international.
Jalen Green vs. Brandin Podziemski and Gary Payton II
The last time the Rockets and the Warriors met, Jalen Green was held to 14 points on 4-for-16 shooting, including 0-for-4 from deep. Brandin Podziemski and Gary Payton II took turns limiting arguably Houston’s most versatile and explosive scorer.
For the Rockets to advance, Green must have an efficient night against the Dubs’ defense. Sengun faces a tough task of winning his battle with Draymond, so his teammate must step off to help carry Houston’s offensive load.
Steph Curry vs. Fred VanVleet and Dillon Brooks
The Houston Rockets have not seen Steph Curry this season because he sat out in the two games the Dubs played Houston. Chef Curry will play on Wednesday, which will likely see Fred VanVleet or Dillon Brooks start on the two-time MVP.
Brooks’ length and physical play might help contain the Golden State Warriors’ franchise cornerstone. VanVleet is also expected to do his part in chasing his counterpart around screens.
