Golden State Warriors Preview
A Western Conference matchup Sunday night between the Golden State Warriors and the New Orleans Pelicans may be a showcase of two of the NBA’s worst teams. The Golden State Warriors in recent years have been known as a dynasty, but this year they are a shell of what they used to be.
They have won just twice against 11 losses, and are on a six-game losing streak. Friday night, they lost 105-100 to the Boston Celtics.
With Stephen Curry and Klay Thompson out of the lineup due to long-term injuries, the Warriors are led by D’Angelo Russell. But he managed just 12 points Friday night, playing 25 minutes before spraining his right thumb.
Key Player – Eric Paschall
The Warriors are currently suffering with the low cap room because of their success in recent years; they are not deep enough to survive the injuries to their roster. The turnover in the Warriors roster from last season to now has opened up an opportunity for the Warriors 2019 2nd round pick Eric Paschall.
Paschall has played in 12 of the Warriors' 13 games starting in six. He is averaging 15.6 points per game and is playing over 30 minutes a night.
Warriors predicted lineup
Alec Burks, Glen Robinson III, Eric Paschall, Draymond Green, Willie Cauley-Stein
New Orleans Pelicans Preview
The Pelicans have not been much better than the Warriors this season, and sit 14th in the West - 1.5 games ahead of last-placed Golden State. The Pelicans are 3-9 so far and lost Saturday night to the Miami Heat 109-94.
They got 27 points in 30 minutes from Nickeil Alexander-Walker and 18 points from E’twaun Moore.
The Pelicans are a team of walking wounded, just like the Warriors. With six players already out due to injury, both Derrick Favors and Frank Jackson also got hurt Saturday night.
Key Player – Jrue Holiday
The Pelicans will be relying heavily on Jrue Holiday, with eight regular players missing from the lineup because of injury.
Holiday scored 14 points Saturday against Miami and is averaging 16.7 points per game in the 10 he has played this season. He has also been setting up his teammates for easy baskets with 6.9 assists per game.
It will be important for Holiday to stay healthy and productive, as the Pelicans have already suffered several injury problems this season.
Pelicans’ predicted lineup
Jrue Holiday, Nickeil Alexander-Walker, Kenrich Williams, E’Twaun Moore, Nicolo Melli
Warriors vs Pelicans Match Prediction
The Warriors are not the same team without Stephen Curry and Klay Thompson. They are normally a great three-point shooting team, but are currently shooting at 31 percent for the season. The Warriors are also last in the NBA in points conceded, allowing opponents almost 120 points a game and turning the ball over 15 times every night.
The Pelicans are as bad as the Warriors as far as injuries are concerned, with Lonzo Ball, rookie Zion Williamson, Brandon Ingram, Derrick Favors and Frank Jackson all sidelined among others. On the positive side, the Pelicans are a fast team and shoot the three at 39.4 percent.
The Pelicans are 2-4 at home while the Warriors are 1-5 on the road, and the former are 3-7 in their last 10 games while the latter are 1-9. The numbers suggest it should be a victory for the Pelicans Sunday night at home.
