Is Deja Lighty Donovan Mitchell's wife? Taking a closer look at their relationship

2018 NBA Summer League - Las Vegas - Los Angeles Clippers v Golden State Warriors
Donovan Mitchell and Deja Lighty

Donovan Mitchell is en route to his fourth straight All-Star Game. The Cleveland Cavaliers star is in the midst of his best season. Off the court, Mitchell once dated Deja Lighty, daughter of late music executive Chris Lighty, who founded Violator, one of the biggest record labels in hip-hop. Lighty attended Temple University and graduated with a degree in Sports Management.

While it is unclear when the couple began dating, they reportedly called it quits in 2019. Mitchell, who played for the Utah Jazz at the time, and Lighty, who worked as an account executive for the Cleveland Cavaliers, were very far in distance at the time.

Although Mitchell, ironically, now plays for the Cavaliers, Lighty is no longer with the organization. In fact, she reportedly no longer works in sports altogether, as she is now the Social Media Manager for Spotify's Rap Caviar, according to her LinkedIn profile. While Mitchell and Lighty were unable to figure out a way to make the distance between them work, it appears that they have both been thriving since going their separate ways.

Donovan Mitchell is in the midst of a career year with the Cleveland Cavaliers

Donovan Mitchell has long established himself as a star in the NBA, however, he has taken his game to new heights this season. After five seasons with the Utah Jazz in which he made three All-Star teams and led the team in scoring en route to making the postseason each season, Mitchell was traded to the Cleveland Cavaliers this past offseason.

After finishing last season 44-38 and missing the postseason after failing to win a play-in tournament game, the Cavaliers are off to a 12-6 start. Mitchell's acquisition has helped the Cavaliers, who finished last season ranked 25th in points per game and 20th in offensive rating, improve to rank eighth in points per game and fifth in offensive rating.

Mitchell is averaging 30.1 points per game, 4.2 rebounds per game, 5.7 assists per game, 1.6 steals per game, and 0.4 blocks per game. Additionally, he is shooting 50.5% from the field, 42.3% from three-point range, and 87.2% from the free-throw line. Each of those numbers would represent a new career-high if he can maintain them, aside from his rebounds per game, which are 0.2 short of his career high. While he appears to be a lock for his fourth All-Star appearance, if Mitchell and the Cavaliers can continue this level of play, he may also make his first All-NBA team.
