Jalen McDaniels and Jaden McDaniels have made steady progress in their NBA careers. However, Jalen, before entering the league, found himself stuck in the middle of a shocking controversy in 2018, a year before he entered the draft in 2019.

Two women filed lawsuits against the Philadelphia 76ers forward for allegedly filming sex acts. Gwen Gabert, one of the complainants, claimed that Jalen filmed her without her permission on her 18th birthday when they were seniors at Federal Way High School.

Another complainant, Tally Thomas, claimed Jalen McDaniels filmed her performing sexual acts with his teammate from a closet. Gabert and Thomas claimed McDaniels shared their videos with his high school basketball teammates.

The two filed civil suits against Jalen McDaniels in Kings County Superior Court, citing the actions of the former San Diego State prospect that led them to try and commit suicide.

Federal Way Police investigated both cases in 2016 and 2018 before recommending two counts of voyeurism against the soon-to-be NBA player.

Jalen McDaniels didn't have charges pressed against him

Jalen McDaniels didn't issue a statement right away but later admitted to the court that he recorded the two women performing sexual acts. He said he shared the videos with a "small group of friends" and deleted the videos shortly after. McDaniels claimed he apologized to the victims for his actions.

McDaniels didn't have any charges pressed against him after The King County Prosecutor noted the detectives on the case weren't able to obtain the videos. The two-year statute of disclosure of intimate images had also expired.

McDaniels made himself eligible for the 2019 NBA draft but was fighting the lawsuit. Since then, there have been no updates on the status of the case. McDaniels wasn't convicted or faced a criminal investigation for the cases.

McDaniels refused to comment on the situation upon getting drafted by the Charlotte Hornets. His attorney repeatedly stated that her client planned to deal with the lawsuit and was deeply sorry for what the victim had to undergo because of his actions.

Jalen McDaniels currently plays for the Philadelphia 76ers. He spent the first three-and-a-half years of his career with the Hornets before getting traded to the 76ers at the 2023 deadline in a four-team deal.
