JJ Redick explores 2nd star options for Luka Doncic and Dallas Mavericks

Houston Rockets v Dallas Mavericks
Dallas Mavericks star Luka Doncic

ESPN analyst JJ Redick discussed some possibilities if the Dallas Mavericks make a move to pair a star with Luka Doncic.

While noting that Dallas has a strong supporting cast on his podcast, “The Old Man & the Three,” Redick, who played with Doncic in 2020-21, said:

"It's just a matter of who would be available, and I like the idea of Bradley Beal a lot. ... It's obviously gotta be somebody that's comfortable playing off the ball. Sort of oscillating between on the ball and off the ball, and most stars are ball-dominant.
"I think the interesting thing about Bradley Beal is his ability to sort of play off the ball as a cutter, coming off pin downs, spot up shooting, and then getting into ISO, pick and roll play so I think that's sort of the optimal guy."

JJ Redick mentioned Zach LaVine and Pascal Siakam as other potential options for the Dallas Mavericks to target. While it is unclear if any of these players will be available at the trade deadline, the Mavericks will surely look to upgrade their supporting cast to solidify their place as title contenders in a year where no true favorite has emerged.

Luka Doncic is in the midst of an incredible season

Luka Doncic is having a great season as he is averaging 34.3 points, 8.8 rebounds, 8.9 assists, 1.7 steals and 0.6 blocks per game. The Dallas Mavericks star is in line to set career-highs in each category outside of rebounds. He is shooting 50.7% from the field, 35.9% from 3-point range and 74.0% from the free-throw line, the first two of which would also represent career-highs.

Doncic has taken his game to another level as of late, as he has had three 50-point performances within the span of five games. The three-time All-Star became just the eighth player in NBA history to have had three such performances in a single season before the age of 25.

The other seven players are all Hall of Famers or will be inducted upon retirement. While Doncic has a long way to go until he solidifies himself as a Hall of Fame player, his career has gotten off to a great start.
